133 – Introduction to Theology III

BIBLE INSTITUTE OF CORRESPONDENCE

COURSE: THEOLOGY III LESSON # 33
INTRODUCTION TO THEOLOGY III

 INTRODUCTION:

1. In Theology I and II, we covered the simplest concepts of God.
2. I established the existence of God, and the revelation of Himself to us, i.e., by His Word (the Bible).
3. I discussed, very briefly and fundamentally, God’s mode of being, i.e., what God is like.
4. I tried to establish the importance of knowing God, i.e., what He is like, since this is always helpful in knowing what He does.
5. In studying this, I defined and showed the general divisions of God’s attributes.
6. The remaining lessons, in first year theology, were dedicated to the study of the fundamental attributes and actions of God.
7. As we come to THEOLOGY III, we shall enter a more involved view of God.

I. AS TO THE MODE OF GOD’S BEING

1. The persons of the Godhead: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
2. The triunity of the Godhead, that is, the reality of these three persons, yet one God.
3. The union or relationship of these three persons in the Godhead.

II. AS TO THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SPECIFIC PERSONS

1. The doctrines of Christ, i.e., God the Son.
2. The doctrines of the Holy Spirit.

III. THE DOCTRINES OF ANGELS

1. Their mode of being.
2. Their order, or levels of authority.
3. Their ministry in God’s presence.
4. Their ministry to us.

IV. THE DOCTRINE OF SATAN

1. His origin, fall and destiny.
2. His work among men.
3. The reason God permits his existence.

V. GOD’S RELATIONSHIP TO HIS CREATION

1. How He has and does operate for it.
2. How He has and does operate in it.
3. His immanency and transcendency.

VI. THEOLOGY III – A CONTINUATION OF THEOLOGY I AND II

1. This is simply to state that it will be both an overlapping and an extension of the subjects covered in semesters 1 and 2.
2. It should, both, shed light on the roads we have already walked, and point us into those we have not.
