CHURCH COVENANT AND ARTICLES OF FAITH – ARTICLES OF FAITH CONCERNING THE WORD OF GOD

Read: II Tim. 3:16-17

INTRODUCTION:

1. All we do and say should be governed by this Bible we carry.
2. It is from God to us, thus we are subjects, not judges.
3. If it were from man to man this could not be true.
4. If and when it is polluted by man this ceases to be true.
5. We do not mean everything called a Bible is a Bible.
6. What then do we believe about this book?

III: How every preacher stands or falls by and before it.

I. THE INSPIRATION OF THE BIBLE

1. The word inspiration means breathed or spoken (Act 1:16)
2. It supposes absolute, verbal inspiration. (2Ti 3:16)
3. That the men were inspired is not the same. (Act 28:25)
4. It supposes a unique and total infallibility. (Psa 119:160)

II. THE PURITY OF THE BIBLE

1. Error states that it contains God’s word, but also may contain human opinions.

III: By the recent fight over wording of this in the SBC.

2. The Bible is truth without error. (Joh 17:17Pro 30:5-6)
3. This includes all history, miracles and prophesy (Luk 24:44)

III. THE PRESERVATION OF THE BIBLE

1. There is an error that it is only in the originals.
2. Ruckman error is, it is different and better than before.
3. We believe it was and is and shall be…(Psa. 119:89)
4. This does not mean it will not be attacked, but it cannot be polluted or destroyed.

IV. THE PURPOSE OF THE BIBLE

1. Understanding the purpose helps us understand the nature.
2. It is a perfect revelation to us, of God’s will for us. (2Ti 3:16-17)
3. It reproves, corrects and instructs us in righteousness.
4. It will thoroughly furnish us unto every good work.

III: How so many “Bible Schools” teach so little Bible.

5. It is thus the standard for ALL human conduct, creed and opinion.
