COURSE: BIBLE SURVEY V LESSON # 74
THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST (THE NATURE OF IT)

Read Lk. 24:1-53 and I Cor. 15:1-9. Also, read carefully, MAJOR BIBLE EVENTS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT,  lessons 28 and 29.

INTRODUCTION:

1. As in all Bible doctrines there are “None Deniers” who rather pervert.

Illustrate by the Sadducees and the J.W’s.

2. It is this not only necessary to affirm but to describe.
3. In this lesson I want to describe the nature of our Lord’s resurrection.

I. IT WAS A UNIQUE DISPLAY OF SUPERNATURAL POWER

1. Some claim everything from memories of a person to reproduction as being the resurrection.
2. Scripture describes this as a definite act of God. (Jn. 5:211 Cor. 15:3,4 and 15:20)
3. The accounts prove supernatural not covert activity. (Matt. 28:1-8)
4. This was according to the supernatural claim of Christ. (Jn. 2:18,19 and 10:17,18)

II. PROPHETICALLY AND HISTORICALLY INDISPENSABLE

1. The Old Testament is filled with prophetic types of Christ’s resurrection. (Ex. 14:29-15:2 compared to 1 Cor. 10:1-11 and Jonah 2:1-3:10 compared to Matt. 12:38-40)
2. The Old Testament contains many prophecies such as (Psalms 16:8-11 compared to Acts 2:25-32).
3. It is the personal promise of Christ Himself. (Jn. 2:18-19Matt. 12:38-40Matt. 16:21Jn. 10:17)
4. It is the heart of all apostolic witness. (Mark 16:14-20Acts 1:21,222:31,3317:30-321 Cor. 15:11-15)
5. It is the heart of the great commission to the Lord’s Church. (Luke 24:46-48)

III. IT WAS BODILY AND PHYSICAL

1. The essence of all falsehood surrounding the resurrection points to what happened to His body. (Luke 24:3)
2. His body is mentioned THREE different times in the account of the resurrection. (Luke 24:3,23Jn. 20:11-13)
3. It was the absence of the body that gave the disciples hope and terrified His enemies.
4. The Lord Himself said He was (after His resurrection) a being of flesh and bone. (Luke 24:36-43)
5. All so-called Christianity which denies the bodily resurrection of Christ is false and to be rejected.

IV. IT IS THE ESSENCE OF ETERNAL INTERCESSION

1. This is the only hope of sinning Christians. (I Jn. 2:1)
2. This is our freedom from future condemnation. (Rom. 8:1-4Rom. 8:33-34)
