 COURSE:  THEOLOGY V LESSON # 72
ESCHATOLOGY – THE KINGDOM OF GOD – GENERAL FACTS ABOUT THE KINGDOM # 6

Read: Mat. 21:33-46

INTRODUCTION:

1. We have considered a multitude of Scriptures concerning this subject.
2. The basic direction in the last lessons has been the assembling of general facts:

(1) It is a common New Testament theme,
(2) It is the message of all New Testament preachers,
(3) It is total in tenses,
(4) It is spiritual,
(5) It is physical,
(6) It is mysterious,
(7) It is partial and intermingled,
(8) Its Premium attribute is subjection,
(9) Its citizens are poor in spirit,
(10) Its citizens are persecuted for righteousness sake,
(11) Its citizens are the salt and light,
(12) Its citizens love God’s law,
(13) It has more claimants than citizens,
(14) Men are responsible to seek it,
(15) Men, by nature, resist it,
(16) It may be sought and not entered,
(17) It is entered only by free grace,
(18) Those who enter by Christ are eternally safe.
(19) It is in the process of filling,
(20) It is to be preached universally,
(21) There is a relationship between heavenly and earthly,
(22) It has more servants than citizens,
(23) It is an everlasting kingdom.

3. In this lesson, I will present four facts, all relevant to National Israel.

VI. THERE ARE CHILDREN OF THE KINGDOM CAST OUT (MAT. 8:5-12)

1. When we think of the kingdom soteriologically, this is impossible. (Jn. 3:16Jn. 10:27-29)
2. Yet this passage very clearly tells us they shall be cast out. (Mat. 8:12)
3. This term “Children of the kingdom” in Matthew 8:12 refers to a “Proffered relationship” of natural Israelites. (Mat. 22:3-8Lk. 14:24)
4. Now you ask, “In what sense were they in His kingdom?” By merely being in His presence. (Lk. 13:26)
5. The point here is that Israel had a peculiar, temporary, kingdom relationship, which Gentiles did not have. (Mat. 10:5-15)

VII. THE KINGDOM OF GOD CAME TO ISRAEL (MAT. 12:28)

1. Some, having seen God’s absolute sovereignty, (Eph. 1:11) feel that since it was not received, it could not really have been offered.
2. They fail to apply the truth of the will of approbation and the will of decree to this situation. (Ex. 20:13 and Acts 2:23)
3. The ministry of Matthew 10:5-7 was a ministry of real offer, yet Matthew 13:11 and 12 is fully in force.
4. The only thing that denied them this kingdom was their own black hearts. (Lk. 19:37-44 and Mat. 23:37)

VIII. THE KINGDOM OF GOD WAS TAKEN FROM ISRAEL (MAT. 21:43)

1. While it must be said they had it only in prospect, nevertheless, they had it.
2. The triumphal entry was an obvious and open offer. (Lk. 19:40)

III: They could not squelch the word King even on the cross. Yes, He was “King of the Jews.”

3. It was, thus, that the kingdom was “hid” from them. (Lk. 19:42)

IX. IT SHALL BE RESTORED TO THEM (MAT. 23:37-39)

1. The implication here is that Israel’s desolation is temporary. (verse 39)
2. The apostles expected this restoration. (Acts 1:11)
3. Paul indicated it was to be expected. (Rom. 11:25-29)
4. Christ gave the apostles and Paul this hope in Luke 21:24-27.
5. I feel we will never get eschatology right until we apply Romans 11:29 to Romans 11:25.
