351 – The Church Covenant and Family Conduct

CHURCH COVENANT AND ARTICLES OF FAITH – THE COVENANT REGARDING OUR FAMILY CONDUCT

Read: Ephesians 5:1-20

INTRODUCTION:

1. The previous lesson dealt with the covenant and church conduct.
2. This one addresses the covenant and family and personal conduct.
3. Remember, we covenant with each other to do these things.

I. PERSONAL AND FAMILY DEVOTIONAL LIFE (EPH 5:19)

1. This is probably the most commonly failed area of life.

III: Christians too busy for worship of God until Sunday.

2. Family devotions: Some regular and genuine time for God.
3. Explain some of the ways and patterns of failure.
4. Secret devotion: Time for God when alone. It starts here!
5. Biblical, religious education of our children: It is your job!

II. PRACTICE PERSONAL EVANGELISM (MAT 5:14–16 EPH 5:11-13)

1. Not today’s “Quick fix” salesmanship. It is wrong and harmful!
2. Realizing our lost friends and loved ones are condemned.

III: Is this man or woman I lay by going to Hell.?

3. A constant effort to be a good testimony.
4. The constant practice of prayer for them.
5. A frequent well-thought and deliberate witness.

III. PRACTICING A CIRCUMSPECT WALK (EPH 5:15-17)

1. Explain the meaning of word circumspectly within this.
2. We are to be just in our dealings.
3. We are to be faithful in our engagements.
4. Exemplary in our deportment. (Jam 2:18)
5. Avoid all tattling. (Not just all falsehood)
6. Backbiting. (Two-facedness is wrong)
7. Excessive anger. (Discipline your anger)

III: Proper anger is proper!

8. Abstinence from intoxicating beverages.
9. Abstinence from the sale of intoxicating beverages.
10. Walking circumspectly is just good common sense in all things, with a Christian interpretation.
