SEMESTER 1
411 – The Creation of Man (When and Why)
BIBLE INSTITUTE OF CORRESPONDENCE
COURSE: BIBLE SURVEY I LESSON # 11
THE CREATION OF MAN (WHEN AND WHY)
Read: Genesis chapter 5.
INTRODUCTION:
1. In the previous lesson I dealt basically with the fact of the creation of man.
2. I tried to lay before you the biblical statement of direct creation.
3. I tried to show the illogical nature of the evolutionary theory.
4. In this lesson, I will attempt to complement the previous one, by a biblical and scientific discussion of when God created man.
I. THE TIME SPAN OF HUMANITY ON THE EARTH
1. It has been the long time goal of evolutionists to prove the antiquity of man’s existence.
2. Their claims range from 500,000 to 1,000,000 years.
3. On the other hand, Scripture gives us a time span of about 5,900 years.
II. DO WE HAVE REAL SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE OF THIS CLAIMED ANTIQUITY?
The following facts deny it:
1. There is no historic record, or certain scientific evidence to support it.
III: The elephant tusk-find here in Lawton (Hear on tape).
1. The world population indicates a very short history.
i. Evolution’s time estimate, would involve the doubling of population approximately every 17,000 years.
ii. The Bible account, starting with Noah, indicates doubling every 150 years.
2. Fossil records do not disprove the Bible account.
i. Many competent scientists say they establish it.
ii. All scientists know that carbon dating is very uncertain.
iii. Most fossil placement is more easily accounted for by the flood, than slow erosion.
III: Kelly Seagraves’s; book THE GREAT DINOSAUR MISTAKE (Hear on tape).
III. BIBLE DOES ADDRESS ITSELF TO THE TIME FACTOR
1. Some “Theistic Evolutionists” have tried to claim that Scripture does not set a time.
2. This idea is totally senseless when you read “Adam was 130 years old and he begat,” etc.
3. We have this age chronology all the way to Mt. Sinai.
4. Thus, the Bible indicates about 5,900 years of man’s existence.
IV. WHY DID GOD CREATE MAN?
1. It has been stated that God created man, because He was lonely. This foolish theory attacks:
i. The perfection and independency of God.
ii. The immutability of God.
iii. The wisdom of God, since man does not fellowship.
iv. The omnipresence of God, since it states a subsequent purpose on His part.
2. Only revealed things belong to us, (Deut. 29:29). Thus, if we are to know why, God must tell us. Does He?
i. Rev. 4:11
ii. If we include creation in predestination, and all things sequential to eternity with Christ must be, then we were created that Christ might be the first born among many brethren. (Rom. 8:29
3. We shall find more harmony in the Genesis record, than in all other data.
