189 – The King of Glory Shall Come In

ESCHATOLOGY – THE KINGDOM OF GOD – THE KING OF GLORY SHALL COME IN
Read: Psalm 24:1-10
INTRODUCTION:
1. If I were sufficient for this message, it would consummate and explain all the others.
2. It is too great for me. I trace this royal doctrine through my Bible, like a baby at a banquet.
3. We understand our Bible only as we see “the Word” in it.
4. We understand the kingdom, only as we see “the King” in it.
5. Preoccupation with the kingdom frustrates, while preoccupation with the King enlightens.
III: By the paradox, “He that loseth his life shall find it.”
6. In this lesson, I want to follow the King through the Bible to get a view of the kingdom.
I. HE IS THE KING FORETOLD IN THE TIME OF THE PATRIARCHS
1. I do not doubt that Abel typifies Christ our High Priest, Seth our returning seed, etc.
2. A promise of kingship “father of many nations” was made to Abraham. (Gen .12:2-3)
3. Subsequently, we learn that this promise is fulfilled through Isaac, (Gen. 17:19) in Christ. (Gal. 3:15-16)
4. As we trace this King of glory through the Bible, we will learn that the blessing of the nations is not in Abraham, the Law, Israel, the church, or the millennium, but in Christ.
II. HE IS THE KING FORESHADOWED DURING THE LEVITICAL ECONOMY
1. It is true that the “law contained in ordinances” pointed most commonly to His vicarious death.
i. Abraham saw Christ as King, (Jn. 8:56) as did the fathers of the faith. (Heb. 11:13)
2. The Psalmist saw Him, not just as the dying lamb as in Psalm 22, but as the coming King in Psalm 24.
3. This theme is repeated by Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel and Zechariah, only to name a few. As you study these books, you see majesty.
III. DURING HIS LIFE UPON EARTH HE WAS KING
1. It was this very truth (Mat. 2:1-2) which sent Herod into his rage.
2. He was, in some sense, King of the Jews then. (Mat. 21:8, Mat. 27:11, Mat. 27:42, Jn. 12:13-15, Jn. 19:3)
3. Was this all there was to His reign over national Israel? If so, it was a colossal failure.
4. He was reconciling, not reigning, but He shall reign. (Zech. 14:1-9)
IV. DURING THE PRESENT DAY HE IS KING
1. Both Israel and Rome were glad to see Him go, for they “would not have Him reign.” But He is King.
2. Peter declares that it is only a matter of time until His full revelation. (Acts 2:34-37)
3. What they had denied in crucifying Him, (that He is King) Peter says God insists upon.
4. He is reigning in a grand administration right now. (Mat. 28:19-20)
V. DURING THE MILLENNIUM HE WILL BE KING
1. The book of Revelation is the revelation of Christ as King. (Rev. 1:4, Rev. 15:3, Rev. 17:14, Rev. 19:16)
2. The theme is that He shall reign upon the earth. (Rev. 5:10)
3. The kingdoms of the world shall become His. (Rev. 11:15)
4. The glory of His kingdom shall exceed all that has ever been known, but the glory of it shall be Christ the King.
