CHURCH COVENANT AND ARTICLES OF FAITH – ARTICLE OF FAITH CONCERNING THE DEVIL OR SATAN

INTRODUCTION:

1. Satan is a real, angelic personality, and altogether wicked.
2. He is neither to be revered or joked about.
3. In this lesson we investigate what the Bible says about Satan.

I. SATAN IS A FALLEN ANGEL

1. He is an angel created by God and assigned. (Eze 28:15

)
2. He was created beautiful and given authority. (Eze 28:17

)
3. He was deposed and removed for rebellion. (Eze 28:16

)
4. He is thus a fallen and condemned creature. (Isa 14:12-15

and Eze 28:17

)
5. No forgiveness, no atonement, no hope exists for him.

II. IN THIS FALLEN STATE HE IS MAN’S TEMPTER

1. He constantly opposed Old Testament saints. (Zec 3:1

)
2. He possesses and uses wicked men. (Luk 22:3

)
3. He tempted Christ unsuccessfully. (Mat 4:1-3

and Joh 14:30

)
4. He opposes any true gospel preaching. (Mat 13:19

)
5. He tempts God’s people to do evil. (1Th 3:5

)

III. HE IS THE ENEMY OF GOD

1. He shows this by emulation and competition. (Isa 14:13-14

)
2. It is seen in frontal opposition to God. (Mat 13:37-39

)
3. It is seen in his denial of God’s grace. (Ill. By Job)

IV. HE IS THE AUTHOR OF DARKNESS

1. He promotes darkness by lying. (Liar and the father of it)
2. He promotes it by inciting sin. (1 Joh 3:8

)
3. Sin in turn blinds against gospel and truth. (2Co 4:4

)

V. HE IS DESTINED FOR ETERNITY IN THE LAKE OF FIRE

1. He is not nor has he been in hell.
2. He is walking to and fro upon the earth. (Job 1:7

)
3. He is doing that today. (1Pe 5:8

)
4. However, eternal fire is his destiny. (Rev 20:10

)
5. His followers are likewise destined. (Rev 14:11

)
6. Beware of any occult involvement or games.
