128 – THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD

THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD

Read Deut. 7:9.

INTRODUCTION:

1. This simple statement made concerning God is one of the noblest descriptions of any being.
2. The very warrant for faith (confidence) is faithfulness.
3. The power of God, without His faithfulness, would leave us in a hopelessly frustrated fear.

I. HUMAN INFIDELITY ACCENTUATES THE BEAUTY OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

1. Which of us has not suffered, or inflicted suffering, by the human attribute of unfaithfulness? (Pro. 20:6)
2. Some of the devastating results are:

i. Economic failure.
ii. Psychological skepticism.
iii. Broken marriages.
iv. Political atrocities.
v. Heresy.
vi. Compromising pulpits.

III: Isaiah 30:10.

3. Of whom, but our Lord, could (Isaiah 53:9) be spoken?

III: Observation of humanity is a sickening occupation.

II. THE FACT OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

1. It was Satan’s unfaithfulness to the Creator, truth, and fellow-creature that started man’s fall. Only faithfulness can restore.
2. God never breaks a contract with Himself, or with any of His creatures.
3. The sickening request of Isaiah 30:10 will never be honored by God.

III. GOD IS FAITHFUL TO HIMSELF (II TIM. 2:13)

1. This is simply to say, God will fulfill all His goals. (Rom. 8:28-30)
2. The extent of this faithfulness is infinite. (Dan. 4:35)

IV. GOD IS FAITHFUL TO HIS SON (PS. 2:5-9)

1. The eternal covenant between Father, Son and Spirit has all its meaning hanging upon the absolute faithfulness of God.
2. The Son was obedient unto death. Must not those He reconciled be called and kept? (Rom. 8:30Jn. 17:8-11)
3. God will not allow anything to prevent this. (Isa. 53:10-12)
4. God will draw them to the Son. (Jn. 6:37-40Jn. 17:2)

V. THE FAITHFULNESS OF THE SON IS THE GROUND OF THE BELIEVER’S SECURITY

1. That is, those whom the Father has given to the Son, will be kept by the Son. (Jn. 6:37-39Ps. 89:30-36)
2. The faithful intercession of the Son secures us. (Rom. 8:33-34I Jn. 2:1Heb. 7:25)

VI. GOD IS FAITHFUL TO HIS SAINTS (ROM. 11:29)

1. God is faithful to us in preservation. (Jn. 5:24I Thes. 5:23Ps. 37:28Jn. 10:27-29I Pet. 1:5)
2. God is faithful to us in discipline. (Heb. 12:6-11Ps. 119:75Pro. 13:24Ps. 119:67)
3. Consider a brief exposition of Rom. 1:17. As God’s faithfulness begets our trust, may it also energize our service.
