BIBLE INSTITUTE OF CORRESPONDENCE
COURSE: ECCLESIOLOGY V LESSON # 80
COMMON MARKS OF FALSE RELIGION – THE MARK OF FALSE PLANS
Read: Mat. 7:24-29
INTRODUCTION:
1. In the message on false pathways, we dealt with those who could not enter because they had taken the wrong way.
2. In this message, we will deal with the effect of false religion here, and hereafter.
3. This can apply to a saved person’s life being destroyed.
4. It can apply to a lost person losing life here and hope of life hereafter.
5. Let us identify the metaphors of the passage:
i. The house is a man’s life, including hopes.
ii. The rock is Christ, the foundation of foundations.
iii. The sand is the worldly standards of planning.
7. We are essentially considering the life built without Christ and which falls apart.
I. THIS PERSON IS A HEARER OF THE WORD (VERSE 26)
1. There are many hearers of the Word, who are not doers. (Jam. 1:21-25
2. In some degree this accusation extends to all men. (Rom. 1:18-21
3. This basic attribute of depravity in human nature has a natural consequence. (Mat. 7:27
4. How often men say, “I know I should,” as though that knowledge were virtue.
5. Better for man had he never known, than to know and turn away. (II Pet. 2:21-22
III: By Daniel’s rebuke to Belshazzar: “though thou knewest all these things.”
6. This will be one of God’s indictments against many in the day of judgment.
II. ALL PEOPLE EXPERIENCE COMMON ADVERSITY
1. The sun shines and the rains fall upon the wicked and the just alike.
2. It is detrimental to Christians to be taught that salvation shields from trouble.
III: By the storm on the Lake of Genesarett.
3. Let the sinner know that the God whom he rejects has His way with wind and wave. (Nahum 1:1-6
4. My friend, the storm is surely coming.
III. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENTIATING FACTOR?
1. It is not the care, wisdom, or quality in, or of the building.
2. The humblest life of the poor and uneducated, frequently experience more tranquility and joy than the wealthy and highly educated.
III: By visiting happy saints in poor houses and wretches in mansions.
3. It is not the strength of the gale, nor the material of the house, but the foundation.
III: By the stock-market crash of 1929 and the threat of economic collapse today. Where are we if it falls?
IV. CHRIST’S COUNSEL IS DIG DEEP AND BUILD ON THE ROCK
1. The digging deep is symbolic of repentance.
2. Building on the rock is symbolic of faith in Christ.
3. Any other concept of building is consigned to doom by Jesus Christ.
III: By the story of Richard Allen Adycock.
4. Will your house stand? Will your anchor slide or hold? It depends upon the rock of its foundation.
